2 Nov 2024: Four German News Stories

1.  Over in Berlin this week....unfolded an interesting story....on the east-side of the city.  So in Lichtenberg, there are currently three high-rise buildings (I'd estimate 12 stories each) of what was a former hotel.

There's going to be a re-use of them....converting over to house 1,200 refugees.

The city held a information night (Wed) and things got pretty intense and negative.  It's safe to say....the bulk of the local population is against the idea.

Pretty much a done deal?  Yeah.  The gov't group (district-level) managing this says that it's already a over-use situation going on at the 'center' at the old Tegel Airport.

City mayor reaction?  Fairly critical of the idea.

2.  Dacia (the car-maker) is going to make a E-car...called the 'Spring'.  Monthly lease cost?  77 Euro. Range of 220 km, and a 65 hp motor. I'd say it's mostly a mid-sized SUV.

3.  I thought this was a joke at first.

Kiel Green Party was advocating a new city-rule....to ban reverse parking.  The idea was to lessen parking lot accidents....so you were supposed to pull in, and then pull out....never reversing out (assuming you had a huge parking lot to start with).

Once it became public knowledge of the intent....lot of negativity started up and the Greens dropped this real quick.

4.  Spanish flood death count?  Up to 205.....still counting as they find bodies.
