Seven German News Stories

 1.  I noticed off N-TV news this AM....some Ukraine-Russia war item....the Institute for the Study of War (independent group) has reviewed reports and come to suggest that 60-percent of Russian war-dead....are friendly-fire situations. Meaning....Russians shot Russians.

Yeah, a pretty harsh reality, and this is why the German, Brit and US Armies train to the extent that they do....to avoid stupid confrontations.

2.  German Foreign Minister Baerbock gave a big speech at a UN climate conference.  The key quote?  "Mankind is headed toward an abyss."

3.  Chancellor Scholz made a comment about the youth climate protest crowd..."People are annoyed from start to finish."

He's probably correct.....nothing that these teenage protesters are doing....attracts positive adult reaction or commitment.  It's actually going in the opposite direction.  Just my humble thoughts....it seems like fertile ground being created by the 'kids'....for a new Red Army Faction (RAF) in the decade ahead.

4.  I noticed off N-TV in the AM....some brief talk again about blackouts, and how you need to prepare.  One thing they brought up....the internet will be 'dark' for people in the event of a blackout.

This will freak out some Germans....who are firmly attached to social media and stupid cat videos on YouTube.

5.  German pension upgrade coming in the summer of 2023....4.2-percent up.

To be honest, it probably needed to be in the 8-to-9 percent range....to stay even with inflation.

6.  Carnaval season starts shortly in Germany.  Lot of chatter starting about expanding cost.  Having fun....isn't cheap anymore.

7.  There was a battery company called Northvolt, which had plans on the board to build a manufacturing location in north Germany (near Dithmarschen....along the coast).

With all the paperwork and barriers created.....the company is on the verge of admitting it's not possible to build a plant in Germany, and is now looking at a US location.

Term used?  Deindustrialization.  It's when a state or country has made it near impossible to build industry or provide jobs by regulating matters to an extreme level.
