4 Feb 2024: Eleven German News Stories

 1.  Lyon, France train station....Saturday AM....attack with a guy with a knife, several folks wounded.  Guy?  All that is said is that he had a Italian driver's license (no passport or national ID).

2.  CSU boss Markus Söder wants to get the German economy going with a five-point immediate program in the event of a change of government.

3.  The Bavarian Prime Minister (Soder, CSU Party boss) gave a talk to the  Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper.  He is putting blunt pressure on the SPD-coalition government....saying the core of the opposition to the coalition has five key reforms in mind.

These five?  Abolishing the heat-pump law, reforming Burgergeld (welfare money), reduce bureaucracy, lower energy prices, and reform taxation.

If you went to working class Germans.....I'd say all five have appeal currently.  I'll predict by the beginning of 2026....the heat pump law is dissolved.  Burgergeld version 2.0?  Yeah.....that's likely to be forced as well.

4.  Since the US turned off LNG shipments....fair amount of chatter of natural gas costs going up.

No one says it, but I would imagine some Qatar insider manipulation going on, and the US rigged this for higher profits for Qatar.

5.  Poll done from past week....61-percent of Germans consider democracy at 'risk'.  39-percent say 'no'....not at risk.

If you read the phrasing of the question....the 39-percent say no....there is no AfD threat upon society or the government.

A lot of this being 'fear-porn' by the news media and SPD-coalition?  Well....you could make the case that several factors exist, and fear-porn is just one of them pressing society at this point.

Possibility of AfD winning the 2025 federal election but not capable of forming a coalition?  Presently, they sit on polling around 20-percent.  I just don't see any big gains left here, and even if there were....who the heck would form a coalition with them?  No one.  It just seems like a lot of worry....over something that can't be achieved.

6.  Cannabis legalized?  According to news sources....1 April, unless something happens....cannabis (weed) will be legal.

The federal council (representing the 16 states) still has a 'say'.

Will shops open on 1 April?  I would speculate  and say 'no'...with most cities working up a number (limited amount) of shop licenses....with most openings occurring in early to mid May.

How many Germans use recreational weed?  Statistical data says in the 8-to-9 percent range.  If you asked me how this differs from city to city.....a city like Offenbach probably has closer to one-third of residents who use it weekly....but a town like Bitburg is probably has one out of twenty on a steady use schedule.

7.  Discover Airways pilots are talking about a 2-day strike shortly.  Vacation airline, under Lufthansa.

8,  Numbers from Bloomberg say that E-car registration will drop by 14-percent in 2024.

Peak?  Yeah, and I would suggest same trend or more for 2025.  Election year topic for federal election (fall 2025)?  Yeah, and I would imagine the Green Party will be hurt by national trend.

9.  Hyped-up story this AM.....Miri criminal clan reportedly has informants (note,  plural) in the Finance Ministry's anti-money laundering agency.  If true? There's have to be a complete review of every single employee (figure six months minimum).

Then you have to wonder....who else have they infiltrated?  Bundesbank?

10.  New political party....BWS....has made up an interesting rule....a limit on new membership.  What they fear, at some point, AfD Party members will drop and come over to join BWS.

I would offer the observation, with this action....it pretty much guarantees that BWS gets zero AfD-voter support.....even if the gov't bans the AfD.

11. The farmer protest yesterday around the Frankfurt Airport....maxed-out at 300 vehicles....a lot less than the 1,000 anticipated.  Police say the blockages were marginal.
