Brinkhaus Comment Story

It was a three-line story, which would beg for more questions that I noted last night.

The CDU Party (Merkel's team), has a 'group leader' in the Bundestag to rack and stack legislation....Ralph Brinkhaus.

Well, Brinkhaus had an interview and the question came up over direction with ethnic individuals, and Brinkhaus said in some manner that it is 'conceivable' in the next decade (suggesting 2030 or after) that an Islamic member will rise in the CDU Party and become Chancellor.  Then he added a quote: "If he is a good politician and he represents our values and political intentions."

Who.....is the unknown part of this story.

To be honest, if you pulled out a listing of the top fifty CDU members nationally and from the sixteen states....there's no one of an Islamic nature in the group.

The SPD and Greens have some lesser folks who are Turks or Kurds....but way down the line from the top fifty members for the most part.  Cem Ozdemir is about the only one that comes to mind but he'll tell you that he's more of a secular Muslim.

So this comment by Brinkhaus....is a long way from reality?  Yes.  Some CDU folks will stand there in some manner and be shaking their heads, but there's no one standing there for the CDU (say 35 years old today) that is going to be potentially in the top ten of the CDU by 2030.
