The FIFA Dead-end Strategy?

FIFA, the international soccer organization....is trying ramp up the pay-deal for TV rights....for women's soccer.  So they went and told ARD/ZDF (the two public TV folks) that whatever they bid (they aren't talking about the amount)....it's not enough, and that failing here....means no women's soccer on German public TV.

What's the real gimmick here?

Well, the amount of what they were going to hand out?  If you go by 2019 numbers....it's by one-third up....for bonus-money and team funds.

Naturally, you will ask....do the women get the viewer numbers?  NO.....it's generally 50-percent, compared to men's soccer.  I would also speculate that for the lesser teams (early on in a competition)....it's a lot less than 50-percent.

So here's the key card on the table.....various countries are submitting their bids and it's anywhere from 20-percent to 100-percent less....compared to men's soccer.

FIFA screwed up offering more bonus money to the women?  Yeah.  They can't even stand there now and admit this in public.

Will they get tough and blackout the women's soccer?  They might talk about this, but if they were going to do it.....it's be a colossal long-term mess for FIFA to go and explain to the men's soccer folks....because they'd have to go and use their cash flow.....to fund the mistake made.

All of this coming full-circle and the key problem is that most guys don't watch women's soccer?  Yeah, that's the real issue here.

Even if you said the women's 'cup' was held in Germany and the final championship game would be in Frankfurt....where the arena could hold 51,500 fans....I doubt if you'd get more than 30,000 fans to show up.  Even lowering the entry price to 10 Euro....probably wouldn't change much.

Yes, this whole 'drama' being played out....is impossible to tell...without admitting no one really watches that much of women's soccer.
