If you kinda pay attention to the Germans news....over the past week...there's been a fair amount said over immigration, the Bulgarians, the Romanians, and welfare.
Basically, the political folks, the media, and the general public in Germany....are in some thinking and debating stage currently. Publicly, there's a fair amount of belief that Bulgarians and Romanians are moving into Germany, and quickly signing up for welfare (Hartz IV). This has gotten the general public upset, and pushing toward new reforms.
The facts? Well...there are a fair number of Romanians and Bulgarians who've moved into Germany for jobs. Currently, the unemployment level of both groups in Germany? Less than the Germans who are unemployed. Yeah.....the vast majority of the Romanians and Bulgarians are employed. And yes, those employed.....are paying taxes into the German system.
Some German mayors have walked into the mess and would prefer this be viewed as a city to city problem....rather than invent some massive German national change.....drawing the attention of the EU in a bad way. They've kinda noticed that the Bulgarians and Romanians have attracted themselves into enclaves or districts. They live around other Bulgarians and Romanians. I'd hate to use the word ghetto-bound.....but it suits the situation.
The numbers currently say (summer 2013)....roughly half of one percent of the Hartz IV folks are Romanian or Bulgarian. The vast majority are German.
The "Mexican-problem"? Yeah, it's evolved over the last few months. The news media haven't helped....by showing unemployed Bulgarians and Romanians getting welfare....it's simply aggravated the German public. Going away soon? I kinda doubt it.
