The Voyage to Nowhere

This week, I noticed a travel announcement out from a company that does cruises with the 'big' cruise-lines.  They are trying to assembling a cruise schedule....out of Hamburg, with a couple of major vessels which would be 'situated' there in late summer (figure the 5th of August to start).

So the offerings?

Basically, it'd be a one-week package....you leave Hamburg and cruise out (maybe a max of 250 km toward England), then curve a bit toward Denmark, and head back to Hamburg to enter the port.

Landing anywhere?  NO.

Masks?  They are careful to avoid the discussion but I would imagine that masks will be mandated on the deck, and avoided while at the pubs/bars.

Getting public interest in Germany?  I brought this to my German wife and got her blunt assessment (maybe ten words)....essentially 'hell no'.  In quick discussion...it's going nowhere except Hamburg to Hamburg....probably 10-percent of the passengers will end up with Corona by the end, and you'd constantly be sanitizing virtually everything you touched.  Heavily discounted?  That didn't even get her interest.

The problem here is that the cruise ship business is suffering.  They need public trust, and I think they'd lower the prices by 50-percent to demonstrate that it's essentially safe.  But the fear of Corona is still high enough....that people won't go for great deals.
