The 130 KPH Limit Talk?

It came up today via the Green Party....that one of the BIG issues for them in the 2021 election cycle (in the fall)....will be a national speed limit on autobahns of 130 kilometers per hour.

Roughly fifty to sixty percent of all autobahn roads in Germany are currently 'unlimited'....meaning that you should only go as fast as safety allows (an example, with serious rain coming down.....you probably shouldn't be driving 180 kph.

Most all German urban areas....as you get within 10 km....will have a limit of 100 kph established.

This idea of a 130 limit?  It's been talked about for at least two decades.  I think if you sat down and really asked individual Germans....most would admit they already limit their speed on autobahns to 130 or less.  I would be honest and admit that when I have no limit established....I travel between 120 and 150 kph, and maybe 10-percent of the time....exceed 150 (yes, even getting up to 200 kph).

The idea here by the Green Party....is that you'd help the environment and safety concerns....by establishing the limit.  Then they bring up the topic.....no other EU country has unlimited road speeds.

Would this speed topic make it into the top ten concerns of German voters in 2021?  I would suggest....NO.  Some Greens would talk about this, and maybe a handful of independent voters might say it's somewhat important.

Getting all sixteen states to agree to the limit?  That's the other problem.  I don't see Baden-Wurttemberg or Bavaria agreeing to this.  Hessen and the Pfalz might also be a problem....if you open this to state discussions.
