Thuringia Update

The state government of Thuringia in Germany still has it's unresolved coalition government problem....even though it dropped way down on the news media attention (probably a page two news item now with most newspapers).

What N-TV is saying this morning......

- There will be another vote round to determine if the Linke Party (the winner of the state election) can form a state government around them, the SPD, and the Green Party.  This coalition lacks four delegate votes (42 of the 90 seats for the combined group).

- The intention is that former Premier-President Bodo Ramelow will put his name into the hat, and hope that by the end of today....four delegate votes from the CDU, FDP, or AfD Party find their way to his coalition.

- Even though there is intense pressure on the CDU members NOT to vote for the Linke coalition....news media attention suggests that four members are going to cross the line and end the mess.

- If all of this fails....oddly enough, the other rule in play is that you can't dismiss everyone and go off for another election unless 60 delegates agree.  If the CDU and AfD say no, then they can't dismiss the group, and it gets further complicated.

- The act of abstaining.  The CDU could all abstain from the vote, and there would be sufficient delegate votes to end the chaos.  It's more likely this will occur, and Ramelow win by abstaining.

What all of this has shown?  The AfD Party has reached the stage where it strongly affects state government outcomes.
