Some updates for today:
1. Germany is reporting (WHO numbers) 197 infected, and NO deaths. NRW (the state) is reporting the bulk of infected at 97 Germans.
2. The current policy, upon testing and being positive....you are directed to your house, and you do home-quarantine.
3. It's been reported (N-TV News) that two firemen from Koln are reported infected. It'll be curious if the whole 'shift' for that station is forced on quarantine, and if they can fill the void. This is one of those problems that haven't been fully discussed. Same issue with railway engineers. You could see services affected as quarantines are more developed.
4. France's numbers as a comparison? 204 infected, and four dead. There are only three European countries reporting dead from the virus: France, Italy, and Spain.
5. The German advice on whether to call your doctor? If you've been to an affected area, and have a cough, shortness of breath, or fever (within that 14 day window).
6. There is a 68-page German language brochure/pamphlet available by the German government, which lists out the procedures and priorities for regular citizens....in an emergency. It's been around for a couple of years and offers four-star advice in varying situations (even this virus period). I would strongly recommend it.....lot of common sense tips (all in German, I might note).
7. The subject of 'who takes care of me' came up via ARD (public TV, Channel One). Basically, the journalists offered up the advice that friends and relatives should help the infected guy, and purchase what is needed for grocery items.....leaving them at the door (not entering of course). There are some communities who are setting up volunteer programs (mostly to do grocery shopping).
8. That AIDA cruise ship in the Norwegian port with the two 'sick' Germans? That test result came back negative (regular flu apparently). So that ship appears to be safe.
There are some indications (if you follow the Chinese side of this) that a peak has been reached. Course, it might be three months before you really see a drastic downward turn.
