Political Chatter

Over the weekend, there's been some political hype that will probably be openly discussed for a while.  N-TV did a good job this morning covering this.

After a particular comment on racism....the Green Party looked at the comment (coming from Tübingen's Green Party mayor....Boris Palmer.  They decided yesterday....to dump him out of the party (at least the state-level party mechanism did this).

The general problem with what Palmer said?  Well....he picked up a comment revolving a black soccer player, and simply said that the guy is a 'bad racist'

The player?  Danny Aogo....now retired out of soccer.

So the reason why the comment fell into play?  Somewhere out there on social media (still unverified by anyone in the news media) is a comment that Aogo had used the N-word in a statement.  I looked at this, and tried Google-searching but you can't find the statement.  Maybe he made it and days later....deleted the comment.

Palmer's point?  Anyone using the N-word is a racist.

Dumping Palmer out of the party is in the mind of the Green Party....an effort to resolve things.

I would offer this observation.  The success of the Green Party in Baden-Wurttemberg....where Tübingen lies....is largely due to people like Palmer who walked out of the traditional Green agenda and showed a fair amount of leadership....picking positions which had nothing to do with the 1980s type Green Party agenda.  If you walk around Tübingen, just about everyone there knows the guy and he's generally respected by various non-Green Party voters.

The end of Palmer as a politician?  I'm not so sure about that.  He's been in politics for about 20 years, and generally known as a 'rebel'....fighting causes that typically need someone with guts and persuasive capability.  I could see him starting a party in Baden-Wurttemberg that is some cross between the Green Party and the FDP Party, and possibly engaging on youth votes.

Will public forums bring him this week?  Well....since they are hyped up on public TV to support the Green Party.....he's probably now on the forbidden list to bring on public TV chat forums.

As for my fascination with the guy?  He often took this odd position of slapping around the Green Party agenda because it didn't favor the common working class guy on the street or in the real world....a policy that didn't make operational sense.
