Back on Monday, the EU Minister for Interior Commission (Johansson) went out to the member states of the EU and did the big 'plea' to cooperate and take everyone's 'fair share' of refugees.
If you haven't paid attention over the past month.....the surge in the Med went up a notch or two (the Italian isle of Lampedusa took in 2,000 in the past week or two).
Reaction to the plea? Well.....not that great.
The Austrians said in a blunt way that distribution wasn't the solution....but more of the problem itself.
Both France and Germany are in election-hype (France is next year) and probably won't be enthusiastic over taking any more refugees.
If you gaze around at the Nordic countries.....there's not much enthusiasm there. Portugal and Spain are both on negative economic trends presently (as is Greece).
So it's almost impossible to find any European country that is truly thrilled over taking on more refugees presently.
The chief problem....none of them can openly make a statement that the friendly accept-refugees period has come to a halt in Europe. It's like being at a big party, where they refused to tell you that there's no chips, no dip, no wine, no beer, and no music....and the host just sitting there grinning at everyone.
Italy getting stuck with the bulk of the incoming crowd? It's basically rigging up the next election for a significant amount of frustration by the public over how this was handled.
