Generally, by normal 'rules'....the size of the German Bundestag is supposed to be around 598 'members'. Currently (in this present legislative period)....709 members are in the Bundestag.
Yeah, a number of folks hint strongly....it's way past the accepted number. Why this problem exists? Various mandates exist where a party in a federal state situations....wins more 'countries/districts'....it's 'entitled' in some written rule to have more people showing up at the Bundestag.
So here's the bad news....rumors started up in the past month or two.....that after this 26th of September election....because of the 'little rules'......there might be 950 members in the next group.
Fixing this? It won't happen in 2022, and I seriously doubt that they get serious about this until the summer of 2025.
If you ask most journalists aware of the problem....even they agree that 709 are way more than what the Bundestag need, and things ought to revert back in some way near the 598 number.
In case you were interested....the monthly pay of a Bundestag member is 10,012 Euro a month (figure around 120k Euro a year). Yeah, it's a pretty hefty sum of money.
