The Eifel Story

Roughly 35 million to 45 million years ago.....over here on the western side of Germany (in the Eifel region).....we had significant volcanic activity.  Yes, for those who were ever stationed around the Bitburg area....if you went north (around Daun, Ernstberg, etc), there were roughly 20 active volcanoes in the region.  You are talking about 2,000 square kilometers of area affected by what you'd call 'mini-volcanoes'.

So I noticed this morning, via a short piece in Focus news.....the experts are a bit concerned over activity below the Eifel region, and they hint in some way....magma is moving.  They aren't saying this year, or even in the next 1,000 years....but they suggest eventually....they think the Eifel region will crank back up and be another volcanic area.

Something that Germans will worry about?  Well, on the list of one-thousand things that get discussed....this probably moved up a notch and fell within the one-thousand things.  But in this case, you don't need to worry about bureaucrats screwing this up.....all they can do is simply stand back and observe.
