Ultra-Sound Story

Of the hundred-odd 'process' problems with migration, immigration and asylum in Germany.....there is 'fake age'.

So to explain this problem....Germany will openly admit that if you show up and claim asylum as a juvenile, it's extremely likely (better than 90-percent chance) that you will not be sent back to your home country.  It doesn't matter....Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Mexico, or even the US.  Unless your parents come and provide paperwork to the government that they know you are here and demand that you be brought back.....they simply won't make any effort to deport you.

Naturally, this juvenile thing means anything from eighteen on down.

Could a guy lie about this?  Well...absolutely.  There are various cases that have popped up (usually after some crime efforts) that the Germans make some efforts and accidentally discover that you are 20.....maybe even 25.....maybe even 30 years old.

At some point last year, after a murder....the Interior Ministry figured out that the guy in question (from Afghanistan) was probably over 25 (while pretending to be 15 upon arrival).  They wanted to mandate that all juveniles processing paperwork, submit to a physical and prove their age.  Doctors?  Oh, they went ballistic...that's not their job and they think it's irresponsible of the government to mandate this.

I noticed in Focus (the German news magazine) today that there's a health ministry project going on with the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and Saarland University. It started in the last week.  So the question they are examining....can you use ultrasound can determine someone's age.

It's a million-Euro project.

So you remember the murder I was talking about?  Well....this unaccompanied juvenile 'kid' originally gave his age upon arrival at 15.  Oddly enough, because they'd already proceeded to a couple of points in the murder case....the court said 'when in doubt, assume he's a juvenile'.....and they proceeded on with that view.  The punishment?  It's safe to say that he'll do around time until age 20, and then be released.  One would assume a deportation will occur, but we aren't to that point yet.  What the court did in some ways.....simply infuriate the public even more, by pretending the discovery of the fake age didn't matter.

If this ultrasound test idea is successful?  I would assume that they'd mandate that no juvenile paperwork would process through from that point on....without the test performed.

How many fake age adults are playing this game in Germany?  Unknown.  It might be ten.....it might be a hundred....it might be a thousand....it might even be ten-thousand.  When any journalist suggests otherwise, they have no facts to base their suggestion upon.

This is a sad part of the story.  Working-class Germans will look upon the naive nature of the bureaucrats, and the comical behavior of the legal minds of Germany....then suggest that they themselves are juvenile in their attitude.

Here's the odd thing about the long-term playing of this game.  Let's say that twenty-eight year old 'Sam' walks in and says he's 14 years old.  He wants juvenile asylum.  Without much review, they grant it.  'Sam' even gets into some apprentice deal after six years of some German language, basic education etc.  But when 'Sam' starts to get up to around 50 years old....'Sam' is simply not as agile or strong as his German associates.  And by age 55.....'Sam' has issues.  But in reality.....by this point, 'Sam' is really 69 years old.  By the German system....they want 'Sam' to work all the way to age 67.  But if 'Sam' tries to do this....'Sam' will really be 81 years old.  Do you really think that 'Sam' can work to his fake age?  Be realistic.  So 'Sam' will retire early.....make less income, and end up coming over to the welfare office to make up for his lost wages because of declining health.

In general, Germans are not that stupid.....but bureaucrats are.
