Possible US Base at Lithuania?

Well...in the past month....Lithuania has offered the United States a permanent military base...suggesting they'd cover some/all costs involved.

Serious?  Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius made the comment on 6 October 2026 that Lithuania is ready to pay for a permanent U.S. base if Washington agrees to station troops there on a lasting basis.

US looking over the idea?  Yes.

Past history?  Over seven years...around 1,000 US Army folks (armor battalion) have rotated yearly through the state.

The structure/area offered?  The Pabradė training area.  Max basing?  Probably in the 1,500 to 2,000 personnel.

History?  It's been a military site for roughly 125 years.....44,000 acres.

50 km from the Belarus border?  Yeah, that sums up closeness to Russia.  Swampy?  Probably about half of the military site....I'd put into the swampy category.  Awful sandy region.

If you read though the chatter....what Lithuania wants is more of a permanent deal....rather than rotations. I don't see the US Army signing up for 2-year tours being the norm....just more rotational situations where you have 1,000 to 1,500 folks coming in for training purposes.
