The 'Wild' Nature of Mainz

I live across the river from Mainz, and tend to view the local news there a good bit.

Back on Monday AM....several drivers within the city limits of Mainz called the police....reporting a wild boar.  Cops looked but could not locate it.

Wednesday....AM....story story, around 5 AM (still dark).

Wednesday....PM....way after dark, more calls into the police of the city....still could not locate it.

Thursday night....using thermal imaging gear (a drone), the police and the fire department finally were able to ID the wild boar over by the Theodor Heuss Bridge.

For reference....it's the middle bridge of the city, and absolutely mid-town area.

So there was this quick huddle....assessing people and traffic, with some city authority overseeing this....coming to the conclusion....yeah, we have to shoot the boar.

Local hunter dispatched....shot the boar.  Police say the weight was 28 kilograms (61 pounds).

So....on the  general scale of wild boars....that's at the bottom of the adult charts. The males (at full size) get up to 200 kg.

How it got into the mid-town area without being seen....for four days?  Well....that would be a curious thing to discuss.  On my urbanization index....1-to-10....Mainz is pretty urbanized (I'd give it a '6'), with only a couple parks where the boar might have hid out.
