I probably watched last week around 2.5 hours of King Charles visit to Germany. I'll just say....a lot of coverage was provided by both public TV and commercial networks.
So the key question brought up....is World War II remembrance now a fading thing?
I would offer three observations:
1. If you brought up WW I/II....asking for anyone under the age of 20 about 'facts'....you mostly get a funny look. Other than mentioning Hitler and the Nazis...there's not much else they would add in a conversation.
2. If you bring up WW II around Germans who are 90 or older...who lived some memories of the years prior to the war, the war itself and the three years of misery that followed....they will talk for hours over the subject.
3 The bulk of Germans in the 21-to-65 range? They've watched a few movies on the subject but don't really have a knowledge base to say much.
It was odd...just how positive they spun the visit....like BREXIT never happened.
