The 'Linda' Story

It is a page two story but one of those German stories that you'd sit around and try to imagine.

At some point, two years ago....there's this young teenage gal named 'Linda' from the Dresden region.  Family break-up.  She stays with the mother.  Mom associates with a new guy she can't stand. 'Linda' gets on the internet, and somehow gets radicalized. No, 'Linda' is not Muslim or Turkish....she just sees this as an escape plan from the house.

The new friend convinces 'Linda' to get the mother's passport, buy a ticket to the border of Turkey and join up with ISIS.

At the border, there's some connection going on...telephone chat.  And in the midst of things....the friend arranges via the phone for 'Linda' to marry a young warrior.  The Muslim Mullah gets on the line and wham-bang (as we say in Alabama)....'Linda' was all married-up....having NOT yet met the young guy.

'Linda' crosses the border.  The two meet as husband and wife.  Some physical activity occurs.  'Linda' get pregnant.  Roughly 90 days go by, and the husband is killed in action.

At this point, 90 days into this whole thing....some reality had come to 'Linda' and she expressed the desire to leave.  No was the answer, and they more or less held her for the rest of the time.

Now captured, 'Linda' is in a difficult position because of accusations that she might have killed a couple of folks during the war.  'Linda' says she just provided medical service and now just wants to return to Germany.

So far, it's been left up to the Germans to work out some deal.  Journalists don't say much over this part of the story.

It would make a fine movie, I think.  But you just don't know how this will turn out.
