E-Car Fire

Curious story that I saw briefly on N-TV news (Commercial German news) this morning.

Halfway between Jena and Erfurt....is this town of Apolda.  Firemen got called out to a parking garage (outdoor) of apartment complex yesterday.

E-car on fire.

It took a while but the fire was eventually put out (total loss on the car).  Damage cost?  Between the E-car and surroundings....near 100k Euro.

About every ten days now, if you pay attention to local and national news....some E-car catches on fire.  Just an odd thing.....no one is saying one brand or another....nor are they explaining how the fires start up.

I am nit an electrician but i do have a technical background, most likely the issues lie in manufacturing defects, improper usage -very frequent fast charges can probably cause damage to the battery and to a lesser extent physical damage done against the battery pack could ignite a fire… most likely insurance companies will start to pay attention to these events as the electric car fires usually are 100% vehicle loss

You are correct...on E-car losses, it's 100-percent.

On causes? Unknown. I suspect that a short starts up somewhere....melts something, and then a flame starts up. One curious....there's no fuel in such a car, so it's just the batteries on the burn and fire business.
