Explaining The Deutschlandticket

The Deutschlandticket, offend referred to as the D-Ticket)....came up in the summer of 2022....as Covid ended.

It was a gimmick to get people used to using train and bus service throughout Germany, and for 3 months....you could buy the monthly ticket for 9 Euro.

Then it ended, and some hyped-up sense occurred....to bring it back.

The limit?  You can go anywhere in Germany....onboard local and regional trains, but NO high-speed ICE train use.  2nd class only?  Yep.  Oh, and normal city bus use if part of the deal.

Can the Bahn sell  these and operate at a profit?  NO.  There's public tax revenue funding these and if you really got down to normal cost....it'd be in the 85-to-100 Euro range....NOT 49-Euro.....for a monthly card.

Are we reaching a point where the funding cannot continue?  I would suggest that in 2025....it'll have to go up to 65-Euro minimum.....if not cancelled entirely.

My only criticism?  Well...you can't use it for high-speed trains,  so it makes little sense unless you do these strictly for local/regional use....say within 100 km of where you live.
