12 Dec 2024: Seven German News Stories

 1.  VW said yesterday.....it's looking at the idea of ONLY manufacturing the Golf model....in Mexico.

Naturally, this disturbed a lot of German employees.

Cost factor driving this? Yes.  Would a German buy a VW-Golf made in Mexico?  I have my doubts.

2.  The Tuv-folks (the German authority who inspects cars for the gov't)....say they want a new rule....if a registered car is over ten years old....they want it inspected yearly.  Lot of folks got disturbed over this suggestion.

Typically, you take your car in every two years for the Tuv-inspection.

Behind this....I think some car brands (I won't suggest the brands....just to say they are made beyond the border)....are crap by the tenth year of existence.

3.  As Syria settles, there's now a worry that if the half-million Syrians in Germany up-and-leave.....it'll harm the economy.  I've seen at least six references in the past 48 hours over this idea, via ZDF and ARD TV news reporting.

4.  Focus did a fairly big report over crack-use in Germany (exploding currently).  The big negative?  They discuss that synthetic substances of unknown quantity are being blended in.

5.  Of the promises being made (campaign-wise) from the Green Party....a 'credit' of some sort would be created for E-car charging.  How much?  Unknown.

What makes E-car charging a pain....Germans already pay the highest rate or electricity in the EU....so you'd have to invent a new tax (probably on gas cars).  They also are talking about a tax-credit if you bought a new E-car.

6.  2034 World Cup....to be in Saudi Arabia.

7.  70 river-freighters are 'trapped' because of the broke lock on the Mosel River.  Suggestion is that it'll be at least ten weeks before repairs are done.
