While a lot of Germans mostly stick around to seven basic parties....in reality, there are around 30 to 40 parties functioning in Germany. If you tested people....they might be able to list the top seven, and maybe three of the lesser parties.
So last night night, the public TV folks got around to talking about a major problem for the Feb national election.
All of the parties....to get listed on the national ballot.....have about four weeks to present petitions to be listed. Each of the 16 states has a mandate....get x-number of folks to sign it.....to get your party on the list. Nationally, you need around 30k signatures, but for example....in Bremen, you need 3,000 signatures for your party minimum. Each state has this number process....to get listed.
So there is a belief of the 45-odd parties that were in the last election....maybe half of them won't get the petitions signed.
The Pirate Party? They probably will make it.
The Hip-Hop Party? They probably won't make it.
The European Love Party? They probably won't make it.
The Garden Party? Unlikely to make it.
So my question....from the four-million folks who might vote for a lesser party....if your party is not listed....will you stay home, or vote for a new group?
