The Kassel Shooting

I've essayed a couple of times over the 'alleged' murder of the CDU Party politician from Kassel....Walter Lübcke.

The cops, since July of 2019....have focused on this right-wing German character, Stephan Ernst.  In general, the cops will say that there was a second person who had some knowledge, but Ernst is the guy in the house, and the guy who pulled the political murder.

Well....this week, things got hyped up.  Weeks ago, Ernst stood up and did a confession.  This week, he took the confession back, and then boldly suggested that a second person was in the house, and that guy pulled the trigger.

HR (regional Hessen TV) covers the bulk of this story.

The second guy (older guy in his 40s) is said by Ernst to be in the house, and they were there to imitate the CDU guy.  Ernst now says that in the imitation phase.....he (Ernst) hands the guy over to the second guy, and there's some accidental firing of the guy, while the gun is in his hands.

The problem here?  German cops say they have DNA evidence of Ernst in the house.  The second guy?  No DNA evidence shows up.

Problems proceeding with the case?  Well, the prosecutor and judges have to go and just block out the second guy in the house story, unless some evidence arrives.  But if the second guy is the one with the pistol in his hands.....then Ernst can only be charged as an accessory.

Fictional confession?  Maybe.

But this whole thing is difficult to figure out...if the second guy story enters into the court-room, and folks have to wonder if the cops screwed up and just failed to collect enough DNA.  You would think that handing the pistol to the second guy....would result in some print or some gunpowder left on the guy's hand.

The arrest of Ernst?  Days and days later, so the gunpowder thing probably could never be established.

The odds that the sentence part of this is going to drift down, with lesser charges?  That's what you have to wonder about now.
