Covid-19 and Alcoholics in Germany

I sat and read through a piece from Welt today, and the topic centered on German alcoholics, and how Covid-19 has been pretty rough on them.  It was a curious story.

For a great amount of 2020....pubs and bars have been shut downed across Germany (villages, towns, and cities).  Around five years ago, a study was done and they figured from 83 million in population, 1.8-million Germans were in some way an alcoholic.

So this group (1.8-million) normally would sit several nights each week at their local pub...sip through some beers....engage in conversation with other 'friends' and have some social life around their drinking problem.

In this Covid-era?  The bar is closed, and you quietly sit at home....sipping the beer....watching TV, and mostly alone.  No chatter....no social contact....no friends to discuss your woes, sorrows or failures.

It's a rough situation to be in and it's probably intensifying the alcoholism to some degree.

As Welt emphasized....it's a dangerous path and not likely to lead to anything positive.

Solutions?  None.

Just something to ponder upon.
