Why Are The German News Media Worried Over The AfD Party?

This is simply observations by an American viewing the whole landscape....note thi.

There is this enormous view that AfD represents the old Nazi Party of the 1930s....period.

Why?  Oddly, when the AfD folks started out....they were more or less a one-topic party....against the Euro, and wanting to bring the D-Mark back.  If you viewed things around 2010?  I'd say one out of every ten Germans agreed on this idea, and it was bold enough that one single topic was enough to vote for them.  Back when they were getting maybe 3-to-6 percent.....no one said much.

When they were taken over around 2014....with the new one-topic idea?  That was against migration and asylum.  That bumped things up, and started the news media to worry.

Presently, they've picked up a couple of topics.  They are leaning kinda-pro-Russia, anti-NATO, and they have countered the SPD coalition a fair bit.  Anti-Ukraine?  To some degree.

Presently on polling?  Somewhere in the 18-to-19 percent range.

Are they picking up votes?  Maybe, but these votes are really iron-clad.  It's just that people aren't that thrilled with the SPD-coalition (SPD-Greens-FDP).

Are they Nazis?  There's five or six who have 'brands' or chatter that might sound a bit like that.

Could some judges just declare them non-functional?  Yeah, but they'd just go find another party to 'grab' and within three months....recreate their function. This already occurred in Bremen.

How large could the AfD expand to?  I personally can't see them getting much past the 25-percent point.  No one would partner with them, and you'd just end up with other parties (either CDU or SPD) as a lead, and two minor parties building up a coaltion....as a very weak form of government (like you have now).

The SPD and Greens having trouble in selling their brand or getting a 'pat-on-the-back' by the public?  I'd say both are true.  The news media....let's admit....can't do much to paint up success.
