Drought Effect

With the drought going on.....even the Rhine River is 'messed-up'.  I read through a piece via SWR (regional public TV), and they chatted on the cruise traffic affected.

The cruise boats at present....can make it down past Mainz and Frankfurt, and end up stopping near Speyer.  There....the passengers get off and go by bus.  The Rhine doesn't have the water capacity to continue onto Basel.  Presently past Speyer, they say the water level is near 1.4 meters.  In a normal year, the level at this point would be near 3 meters.

Based on the current weather 'chatter'.....there's no real rain anticipated for at least two weeks. August is typically a dry month.  So the water level might actually dip down to 1 meter in two to three weeks.
