This topic came up regionally around two weeks ago, within the Frankfurt region. En24 covered it, along with a dozen other regional news sites.
So this German Muslim guy (not an immigrant but full-up German since the day he was born)....has this project in his head. He wants to build a privately owned/operated indoor pool.....only for Muslims (mostly for Muslim women, if you read through the whole story told)..
The logic here? He states it in a blunt way....the conservative nature of the religion requires a sort of 'barrier' to exist between men and women. It would make sense in the Frankfurt region (which has a fairly large population) to have this private pool operating, and it'd be with hours only for men, and hours only for women. Swimming lessons for young men and women would occur, but in separate groups.
So I read through all of this and there's several key points.
First, this guy is an active businessman in the Frankfurt area.....maybe not a big profit kind of guy, but he's run a business, and knows the key factors in making an operation work.
Second, investment capital is the key part to this story. Putting the property costs to the side, I'd say that a pool like he describes (indoor type) will require in the range of 2-million Euro (maybe going up to 3-million by the end). He's not suggesting a huge facility (like the indoor park PRE-Park area of K-town). If he had suggested an outdoor pool? Well, he could have cut half the costs out, but you'd only be able to operate it from mid-May to early September.
Third, Frankfurt likely has the numbers of 'customers' to make this work.
As for the criticism over this? It's primarily drilled at the idea that men and women can live, work, and share recreation activities in the same fashion. German political figures from the area have been careful to avoid this topic.
My view on the venture capital coming to this? This guy would need some rich-in-the-pockets Saudi or Turk to come onto the scene.....ask for 50-percent ownership, and dump down one-million Euro to get things serious. As for the permission to build? I'd offer the view that it'll be in the Offenbach area (east of Frankfurt), where Turks control a fair amount of the political activities. Yeah, I would suggest within three years that the pool will be built. As for profits? On that, I'm not quiet as sure of the results.
(One final comment: just because you build it.....doesn't mean that Islamic men will come or use the facility. They might prefer the German pools, with the German women in bikinis. This would bring up the topic if the use of the pools are more for women-watching, or for pure recreational purposes.)
