72 Hours and the New SPD Leadership

The two key phrases used last night by German political analysts, university professors, and journalists?  'Chaos' and 'skepticism'.

SPD political enthusiasts are trying to spin the new dynamic duo in charge of the party direction, and the actions since Saturday night have probably left the rank-and-file voter, the common working guy, and the news media in a unconvinced and doubtful manner.

Doubt put upon Walter-Borjans and Esken?  One analyst suggested that the party is in such clutter that it didn't really matter.

So here's the thing to consider, if you look at 2017 national election numbers, polling over the past year, and the positions taken by the Greens, SPD and Linke Party folks....they've all merged onto the same basic platform, and it's just one central party pretending to be three.  The numbers add up to around 50-percent of the general public vote.  The SPD rest at 12-to-14 point, the Linke at 10 points, and the Greens at 24-to-25 points.

Look over the energy comments, the school comments, the migration comments, the taxation comments, and so on.....the three parties are shaping themselves into just one core group.

As for the break-up of the Merkel coalition, as the threat goes by the two new SPD bosses?  There's strong wording by members of the SPD Party that this is not in the favor or character of the party.  Yes, there is some hostility brewing that this new direction isn't favored by the bulk of the SPD voters.
