German Inflation

Over the past six months, there's not been a week where my wife (German) has commented upon inflation.

To be honest here....there wasn't much inflation to talk about in 2018 or 2019, but vegetable and fruit prices edged up because of the drought that much of Germany suffered through.

Then came Covid....where in 2021....inflation was getting between 3 and 4 percent. You can blame logistics to some degree.

Last year, by mid-summer, inflation became a big issue because of the Ukraine-Russia war....where you found out there were dozens of agricultural products sold in Germany....which were produced in the Ukraine.

Odd items.....like mustard jumped in price.  Spaghetti, shot up.

Because of the natural gas business leading back to Russia.....your heating and energy cost ramped up.

I sat and reviewed the news this AM....for Feb, the rate of inflation was placed at 8.7-percent.

Any of this inflating to ease up for the rest of 2023?  I would seriously doubt it.

All of this has a cooling effect on things that you'd typically do....like going out for a pizza on Friday night, or having a 3-day weekend in Hamburg, or dumping plans for a new car  for at least another year.
