Just six observations:
1. On my crappy-weather index (having spent around six weeks of my life in the UK)....score of one-to-ten....I give it a '7'. For 'invaders', you might want to review other options if weather is a big deal.
To be honest, when some Brit does say a heat-wave....it's generally 28C (meaning 82.4 F). It's not really that hot. But there's virtually no AC units anywhere, so if it did get up to 32C (90 F)....you are screwed on comfort.
To also be honest, when the Brit says a bit of snow will fall....it might just be an inch, or possible 12 inches.
On fog, well....yeah....that's always in the mix of things. 'Thick fog' gets uttered a lot.
On heavy rain and floods? It just seems like every third year....someone wants to suggest once-in-a-hundred flood. Then four weeks pass, and the event seems forgotten.
2. Just about everyone seems to have some two-page memorized story of criticism over the health services. Half of the folks then run off the minute they have a bee-sting or wart to appear....thanking Jesus, the Monarchy or the gov't for providing four-star services. A month then passes where they start to utter profane commentary again.
3. The accent thing. In each community you venture into....you discover another slight variety of an accent....where one-third of the people you bump into....do speak English but half the conversation is troublesome.
If it's that bad for an American to hear and understand....it's to imagine an Albanian or Iraqi facing the language and accent issue.
4. Least accepting society of non-Brits.
To this....I think it goes back to the Roman era.
Just to suggest that four Scottish guys today have arrived in some Welsh village to renovate a house....gets people fixated on foreigners.
Having Americans or Australians around....disturbs them just as much.
5. If you think it's an invasion....having people staying in local lodging/hotels is about the last thing to do.
6. Finally....lots of jobs for untrained migrants arriving? Well....no. You already have a fair number of marginally educated Brit 'kids' who are doing the zero-training jobs....you probably don't require more of such people.
That's the odd part of this story. If you had certification's or some nursing background, or work as a butcher....you would not be seen as a 'invader'.
