From early on in the Covid-19 period (going back to February), there were five or six German virologists who appeared routinely on German public TV (ARD or ZDF). Respected individuals, who probably had never been on national TV in their life and suddenly...their blunt honesty and knowledge matter.
The one thing you could admire from the early period, through May, and most of June....they all went along the same path and said generally the same things.
At some point in early June, you started to notice more experts in the mix....maybe twenty-odd people, but some of them were simply doctors, or scientists....not virologists. At this point, you started to notice little comments that didn't really fit the path by original experts.
So today, via N-TV (commercial German news)....this little 'battle' is brewing over what one expert said compared to another expert.
One expert is an actual virologist (Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit). The other? More of a politician, but he's also a doctor (Karl Lauterbach, SPD Party).
So the discussion came up and the political guy said that the mask policy will come to a close in terms of walking into stores. Now I admit, he was careful....he didn't say this week or next week....just that it will come to an end. The Virologist? That just got him going in a big way.
Course, then the virologist got deep into another topic....that disco operations could open up if the right sanitation rules were in effect. This gets thrown around but most folks question how it'd work. Dancing in mask? It's hard to imagine....maybe if this were a 18-year old.....maybe it's possible.
We are simply reaching a point where too many experts are in the mix, and too many discussions involve dozens of different factors.
Even if you lifted the mask rule....I suspect way more than 50-percent of the German public would continue on and refuse to participate in a mask-free environment.
