We had a 'little' knife assault the other night in Wiesbaden, and it's worth telling the story.
First, I'll note the time....2 AM. I usually dispense the advice that nothing good usually happens from midnight to 4 AM.
In this case, down near the Wiesbaden train station....about 5 minutes walking southeast....we have a party district (mostly for folks between 18 and 25). Somewhere in this area, a couple of folks met up with this one guy, and a argument started up.
Cops don't say what the argument was about, but in the midst of this....a knife gets pulled out. A local guy is stabbed....enough to be taken to the hospital, but survives.
Here's the thing....this 'park' area is heavily fixed with cameras....a lot of cameras. So they didn't have any problem in seeing the action, then the retreat of the knife guy, and his walk toward the train station.
I doubt if he grasped that part of the little experience, but the police had plenty of angles.
So here's the thing....he was readily identified. In fact, the police had some previous run-in's with him before. They actually knew where he lived, and just camped out....waiting for him.
Charges? Attempted manslaughter,
Here's the thing....twenty years ago, this type of incident could occur, and marginal video would exist of any area of Wiesbaden. Today? There are literally thousands of public and private cameras laced around the city now. If you did anything stupid or illegal....it's pretty good odds that the video caught your action.
The database now? They have your name and can dispatch a police crew in two minutes to the residence.
So crime....no matter how minor or major....is awful hard to get away with.
