ARD (the public news channel, Channel One) had a great piece today on safety and Constitutional Protection. Strongly recommend a read.
The number of extremist acts in Germany? Up by ten-percent over previous year.
Just right-wing? No. Left-wing activists noted in extremist acts as well.
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (basically the German version of the FBI).....notes a number of problems....including more threats from beyond the German border.
The Islamic threat still continuing? Yes....the report goes over the numbers.
So, one might go and ask the stupid question....if both left and right extremism are increasing....what does this say about the current government or the satisfaction level of various Germans? Part of this blame, if you think about it....is more social media, and more opinionated or disgruntled Germans in the mix.
Getting rid of social media? For a while, the government policy was that you could control it, or limit it. I might suggest that this philosophy has peaked out in terms of public reaction.
All new stuff? Lets be honest, over the past hundred years....there's never been a true 'peaceful' and tranquil period where right/left extremism didn't exist in Germany. Historians will spend hours laying out the landscape of the 1920s/1930s, then cover the 1960s/1970s, and then the past twenty years of Germany.
History....honesty....repeats itself.
