A Chips Fight

Sometimes, I just point out odd stories from the headlines of German newspapers or news sites.  So this morning....piece came on via N-TV about a 'fight' over in Bielefeld (a city of 300k residents....about half-way between Frankfurt and Bremen).

I went to local news over this, and even check the social media comments.

At some point last night (Monday evening).....this argument started up among kids.  Some kid had bought a big bag of potato chips, and had 'shared' it out with a few other kids, with the empty at some point, and this kid made objections about people taking their 'unfair' share.

Feelings got upset, and chaos followed in this residential neighborhood.

Eventually, the police get called.

What the police say, after arriving and settling things....roughly 20 to 30 folks were in some fight (going beyond kids and including mostly teens or adults).  Ten folks were hurt pretty bad.  As for charges?  It appears that some folks will be charged with bodily harm.

Bodily harm, under section 223 of the German criminal code?  Well....if convicted, you could get up to five years of state prison time.

All of this....over a bag of potato chips?  Yeah.

You can imagine the judge getting this case, and trying to reach some conclusion.
