This weekend is another five-star meeting episode with the sixteen Premier-Presidents (governors of the states) and Chancellor Merkel. More Covid-ban chatter to be discussed. What's to come? N-TV had a short discussion over this.
Some German states are discussing to shut down stores very shortly (hinting only that it'd be in the next week or two). In this matter, they are talking about anything beyond grocery or drug stores (the non-essential crowd). Tire shops, clothing places, discount centers, toy shops, music stores, etc....would be closed.
One central closure policy? NO. Merkel still can't convince the 16 on that topic.
The idea that schools would start a early closure situation? That's on the discussion as well. Some talk suggests they'd be closed to mid-January.
The idea of universities shutting early? Same deal.
The idea of a national curfew (9 PM to 5 AM)? Openly discussed....might be different from state to state.
Most people were thinking this 'mega' shutdown would occur after 1 January. The impact of a higher death rate? That's pushing the whole agenda. It wouldn't shock me if all of this were to be set and running as of the evening of the 19th of December.
Screwing up the sales pattern of Christmas shopping? Best not to bring up that issue.
All of this affecting Silvester (New Year's Eve)? I would be guessing that several states will ban normal public celebrations on that evening.
