Over the past couple of months, several German journalists have commented over Chancellor Merkel....suggesting in various ways that she's burned-out, tired-looking, and "looking drawn".
First, she's 66 years old, and in a job where requires 50 to 60 hours of work each....just in a normal non-Covid year. In the past five or six months? I'd be betting she puts in 75 hours a week. Even on a Sunday, she's probably on the phone at least three hours, and reading various reports for another five hours.
Second, this year...because of travel restrictions and all this testing business....I doubt if she took more than five days of actual leave and chilled-out.
Third, lets admit it....she's been at this job now for fifteen years, and it takes a toll on most people. But with Covid being a show-stopper.....a lot of people want time out of her day....to spend ten minutes chatting and trying to work up various programs.
So the journalists might have a point, but I don't see her in a position to slow down.
