1. Over the past week, if you follow the news in Germany.....lot of tank donation activity going on, with a number of countries giving older tanks over to the Ukraine. Amount? Presently, if you added up everything....it's in the range of 150 to 200.
Why on the timing of this? A lot of military analysts believe as soon as winter ends, and the spring 'wet' period concludes....a major Russian offensive will start up, with some belief that a push south from Belarus will occur....toward Kiev.
Key problems for the Russians now? Well....they wasted all of 2022 with tanks and APCs being 'lost'. So this offensive, in terms of tank warfare is a joke. With the rockets and artillery....Ukraine will probably dispatch over 50,000 Russians to six-feet under.
2. Next week (Friday) starts the German 'Jungle Camp' show.....if anyone cares. It's evolved as a reality show, and takes a fair amount of interest for two weeks.
3. Ski season in Germany presently? No....mostly green slopes and a lack of ski folks. Will be a dismal season.
4. There's calls now in the Bundestag for a 'truth-commission' group to form up and talk over the Silvester fireworks business. What may happen? They probably will come to some agreement that in major cities....integration has crapped out with young men.
The problem with this idea? Around one-third of the folks involved/arrested were Germans (at least that was reported in Berlin).
Personally, I'd suggest booze was probably more of an issue, and closing drink sales (grocery stores, gas stations, etc) at noon on Silvester would be a better solution.
5. German authorities announced that for 2022....from inside of the German Bundeswehr (German army)....roughly 900 folks volunteered for conscientious objector status (a record). The belief is that most came into the military believing they were never going to war, and got shocked with the Russia-Ukraine business.
Oddly enough, there's also a plan to bring the numbers within the Bundeswehr up to 203,000....with a lot of recruitment aimed at 'new' Germans (the migrant community) and women.
6. Just an odd part of the Silvester fireworks business in Berlin.....the CDU local guys are demanding a list of those arrested....first names only. Normally, it is an acceptable practice to release these type of records (example: John A). Some folks are saying that the list will have a lot of non-German names and create a racism angle.
Adding to this....the Berlin City election is about five weeks away, and a small segment of the city might be influenced to vote against the Greens and SPD....strictly because of the arrest list (I would guess 3-to-5 percent).
