Five German News Stories

 1.  If you watched the 9:45 PM ZDF (public TV, Channel 2) news last night....it was fairly well hyped-up on Russian propaganda (probably 10 minutes were devoted to that).

The term 'Nazi' was probably uttered at least a dozen times.....as Russian-propaganda items.

I'll just say from viewing my wife's (a German) behavior....it was pretty ballistic over the propaganda BS.

2.  We are about 10 days away from the Berlin-city election.  Polling says the CDU ought to be the lead-party.  Polling also says an odd thing....more than two-thirds of the general public of Berlin think the current make-up of politicians in the city.....are not helpful (meaning SPD-Greens-Linke Party leading the management positions).

3.  Remember the 'Green-Vault' robbery (Dresden)?

The Berlin prosecutor has some kind of deal on the table for the return of stolen items (apparently not all), and has signed confessions with a plea-deal.  But the prosecutor has also said now that he doesn't believe the people agreeing to the confessions were the actual people who conducted the robbery.

What's going on?  At some point in the investigation....a massive review of the crime gangs in Berlin started up.  The head of one of these gangs quietly sat and said....'we might have done this, and regret it'.  It would appear that people fairly close to him (maybe friends....maybe relatives) might have been the true culprits of the crime.  So a deal was made.

Will the judge accept this deal and the fraudulent people going to prison?  Anyone's guess.

Footnote:  As comical as it sounds....one of the guys in the confession stage....says currently, he has no memory of the day (amnesia).  It was all too-much for him.

4.  The Transportation Minister (Wissing, FDP) has stated a national policy of expanding/improving highways throughout Germany.  In general....most Germans would approve of what's on the table.  However, the Last Generation activist group has taken this as a big negative and intend to fight it every inch of the way.

5.  N-TV had a piece this AM on the state of German psychiatric hospitals.  In 2021....almost half of all mental clinics/hospitals were under-staffed, and it's still a problem today.  It's just not that many interested in working in this type of atmosphere.
