Five German News Stories

 1.  Last night, for the ARD public forum TV show....Hart Aber Fair...the crew decided at the last minute to chat for an hour over the earthquake in Turkey/Syria.

Tragic situation, but there was probably 10 minutes of information, and then 50 minutes of repeated chatter.

Poor decision....is about all I can say.

2.  Just odd.

This stateless Palestinian guy from Hamburg who stabbed a couple of people on the train from two weeks ago....just prior to the attack....got into a conversation and compared himself to the assassin from the Berlin Christmas market, Anis Amri.

How the comparison was made?  Unknown.  But this puts the local Chief Justice prosecutor in Hamburg (Anna Gallina, Green Party) into a 'corner'.

Locally, this has created a wave of negative hype.

3.  The AfD political party celebrated it's tenth birthday yesterday.  Shockingly, this was covered a fair bit by the public TV networks (ZDF and ARD).

4.  If you look at chatter and public statements....both the SPD and FDP parties....have an agenda where deportation of failed asylum folks would actively occur.  The Greens, at the other side of the coalition.....in a never-will-happen approach.  Politically, it's a top-ten subject now, and it helps the SPD in any political election (meaning they take Green votes).

5.  New political 'hype' for the Linke Party?  They've pushed up the topic of a four-day work-week.  I'll admit in some cases....it might work well, and attract political attention.
