As police wrapped up the festival in Giessen today.....I can generally say six things:
1. The city was told to 'un-cancel' the fest, so the city did the best it could under the circumstances.....at 33 C (91 F), and had around 1,000 city and regional police on duty.
2. It would appear on N-TV/N-24 and HR.....there were different segments of protest folks....the bulk appearing to me being Eretria folks. Rocks/stones were thrown at the police.
3. At some point, via social media.....someone had suggested someone was dead from an assault. That was BS (fake news).
4. There were two counter-demonstrations 'registered' by the city....at least one was some odd Eretria group (maybe pro-government there, but this was never really explained).
5. Cops say about 200 folks were detained, identified, and released. It sound like they'd get a summons by some judge at a later date.
6. The cops trying to lead the pro-culture folks into the protected area? Watching the videos....I'd say they tried this and were not really getting support by the fest attendees. Just odd but then it's a cultural thing to question the authorities.
In case you were wondering why so many folks from this country....about 30 years ago, it went to a one-government situation (dictatorship probably) and a fair number of people exit the country every year.
