1. French riots. The German networks are showing some of the damage, but keeping this to a minimum. There just isn't a huge black population in Germany, but they don't want this to politically get charged up and become a political topic.
From the 17-year-old kid killed....it's an interesting thing. The reason he was pulled over...suspicion of a stolen vehicle. Yesterday, it came out that this was a stolen car (Mercedes) with Polish plates on it. The two cops had every right to go and do a ID check. The shooting business is what is questionable. The original story told (failing) was that he (the kid) drove at them.....video shows opposite, he reached a point in the ID check and just drove off....to be shot then.
From last night (Saturday)? Several hundred folks arrested.
One American professor was interviewed on France-24 TV (English language) and this AM made the comment that France is very much like the US....in having a significant black population and White France has a problem in relating to them.
2. High yesterday (Wiesbaden area) locally was 17 C (62 F). One of the coolest summer days I've experienced ever....in Germany.

For decades I've been hearing college professors telling us how the US needs to be more like France. Now I guess college professors will be telling us to be less like France.
One has to really go and drive around a fair bit of France (urban zones and rural areas) to understand the country. If you travel into major areas like Paris, Marseille, or Lyon...you grasp that serious no-go areas exist. In rural or mountainous regions....it's certainly right-of-center, without all the crime.
June 2024 is the next EU election. I would estimate that a quarter of seats are going to bump over from left/left-of-center to right/right-of-center, with serious discussion popping up over migration and asylum.
One odd aspect....the whole reason you have Macron in power....he went to various parties wanted 'respect' (open door to run, even though he didn't have any election 'proof' in his past history). Various parties said 'no', and so he started his own party. The general feeling among around one-third of French society....frustration about the economy, crime, and infrastructure. He was supposed to bring 'change' (yeah, as we Americans have heard a great deal). I'd say Macron 'change' is a mixed bag and shooting over the stolen car is a demonstration of that.
