Discussion Over a Threat

Up in the Giessen area (in Lich, Hessen) (13,000 in population)....they had this idea for a logistical 'hub'.  The mayor and city council had gone out and gotten some public support for this....meaning more jobs and commerce in the local area.  I should note, the mayor is from the SPD Party and is a temp-guy in the position.

So this threat came up.

These days, the public news media hypes up threats made against politicians, and it's always hyped as the far-right-wing group who make the threats.  Since the murder of the Kassel CDU party guy a few months ago....it's not a silly matter anymore.

But this threat has been made against the Lich mayor, and those on the city council, plus those who work for them.....to get them to stop the logistical hub construction project.

The chatter from the politicians and the news media?  Right-wing threats.

But here's the thing.  Over the past decade, if you went down to commerce-related threats (which this obviously is about).....the right-wing groups and neo-Nazis have never been against commerce or job-creation.  That's one of the amusing items about these political groups.....no one opposes commerce or capitalism.

Who does oppose commerce or capitalism?  Left-wing types or anti-capitalists.

So this letter and threat business in Lich.....might it be left-wing or anti-capitalist in nature?  No one wants to talk in that direction or suggest that....which makes it a bit humorous how the slant on this story goes.

The work project?  From what the mayor says....they've shut down the construction process for a day or two, and will assess security and what is required.  They can't admit defeat or cancel the project....that would really make them look weak.  As for the anti-capitalists (my feeling)....if they go to the next level and the cops figure out their motive and identity....it's heavy time in a German prison to make threats like this now.  Why would you want to go and spend five years in a prison for a stupid threat?

Onto my last observation....I would imagine behind closed doors....the cops are looking at the letter and simply telling the political folks....no, this is not right-wing tactics....it's anti-capitalists at work, and the political folks really don't want to convey that message to the public.

This is sarcasm, right? Plenty of right wing folks have capitalist hearts when it benefits them, and socialist hearts when it doesn't. The same with most capitalists. As soon as you ask them to factor in all costs, then they quickly run away with non-sequiters and explain that you can't factor in everything, and some of the more honest ones agree that some drawbacks will be socialised for the greater good. Often that sentiment translates into 'their' greater good.

If you use the past decade in Germany, and look at efforts to block construction or to halt commerce, the only identifiable scenes where you'd have a far-right-wing in the mix....is the construction or establishment of refugee housing (various examples of that exist and it can't be argued against).

If you look at demonstrations or attempts to halt BER (the airport), the expansion of Frankfurt's third terminal, the continued efforts of Amazon warehousing, Frankfurt neighborhood housing expansion, railway projects, the coal operations in the NW, the ECB project in Frankfurt....none involve Nazi-type groups or right-wing organizations.

I would agree that soccer hooligans have been active on some regional situations that involves stadiums and security around games.

The point here is that right-wing types have a fairly limited landscape. They can only churn up enthusiasm among their 'group' on certain topics (mostly immigration-related). If Amazon announced a whole new warehouse in Rostock....yes, there's going to be demonstrations against it (safe bet), but it'll be strictly the anti-capitalists or pro-environmental groups in attendance.
