Krefeld Story

What this Krefeld monkey-house fire (in north Germany) amounts to?  The zoo's one and only monkey-holding facility burnt to the ground on New Year's Eve (with the 30 monkey's all dead), and it goes back strangely enough to Chinese lanterns that some older mother had lit up with her two adult daughters, with New Year's wishes.  Yep....as crazy as it sounds.

The lanterns took off in the air, and somewhere in the next 30 to 60 minutes....came down and set the monkey house on fire.

Charges?  The public prosecutor for Krefeld is discussing the matter.  For the local state?  Well....it's illegal by state law there to buy or light-up Chinese lanterns (goes back to an incident ten years ago where a public forest was set on fire).

Sold on Amazon?  Yes, and that's the amusing part of the story.  I checked this morning.....you could buy one by itself or ten.....for a reasonable price, and it'd be delivered in less than three days.  Just because you see it on Amazon.....doesn't make it legal to operate.

Pretty tragic event.
