Police Story

I've essayed a good bit over the past year or two....over the German government agenda to hire more police.  If you remember the basis of this effort....to comfort the public (even though their statistics show a decline numerous areas of crime), the Interior Ministry went to the idea of boosting federal, state and city police numbers.

Well, there is a lingering problem here with the agenda.  If you follow Deutsche Welle.....they laid out the basic story in the news today....a lack of recruits.

It's reached a level with the federal police situation....that they've gone to a plan 'B' type situation....they've lowered the physical requirements, and the language requirements.

There's part of an exam required for entry.....where they recite some speech of 180 words, and you are supposed to write what you hear.  You were allowed x-amount of errors in the writing, and be able to enter the police force.  Well, they expanded the writing error situation, and you could make a good number of errors.....and still be accepted.

Opening this to non-Germans?  That is basically true, but they opened only the door for EU members....meaning that if you were Italian, with decent German skills.....you could apply for the job.

Creating a long-term problem?  No one is suggesting that you will end up with a thousand non-German applicants accepted.  That may or may not happen.  I have my own doubts that you get more than fifty applicants like this.....mostly from Austria or Czech.

As for the lessening of the exams?  That might be a problem on down the line....say ten to twenty years from now, as the applicants move up and become management type personnel.
