The mess ended in the past hour.
Because of the simple majority 'rule' in Thuringia's state Constitution.....four abstaining on the first ballot, 24 on the second, the 42 delegates on the third voting of the day were enough to avoid a failure. Thus the Linke Party nominee....the previous Premier President (Ramelow) is now back at the old job.
Yep, the only method left for this to end....was to have various right-of-center parties just refuse to participate in the state 'game' of delegate voting.
So, with this....things move on and a government now exists to run Thurigina state politics for the next five years.
Some will suggest this was a utter failure, and a minority government now exists (42 out of the 90 seats....make it a minority government). If the CDU, AfD, and FDP delegates vote on anything in disagreement....they have the votes to say 'no'. This isn't the type of government that most would desire.
For the Linke Party to use this as a big hype? I suggest it's best to just move on and avoid discussing this as some big positive for the party. It's best to be forgotten.
