It's a page four type of story which has been out for a day or two.....surrounding a 'spy' within the complex of Chancellor Merkel's office.
Focus laid out the basic facts, and its worth a short read.
A German who worked in the Federal Press Office for the Chancellor....has been on the Egyptian Secret Service payroll for several years. Based on the description, he was a middle-level employee.
Confidential or secret info access? No.
How long have the Germans known of this? Since December of last year (2019).
Max on prison time? Well....up to five years.
As for the value of information? Thats the questionable part of the story. He would have forwarded questions from journalists to the Chancellor's office. He might have arranged 'fact-finding' trips for visiting journalists (from outside of Germany).
To be honest, no one yet has laid out any great loss of information, Other than a secretive income, and probably not reporting it to the Finanzamt....it's hard to find much of accomplishment for the 'spy'. In fact, it begs for the question....why hire the guy to give you marginal information?
