Last night, one of the German public networks.....WDR (from northwestern Germany) did a 43-minute segment on the 'return' of autokinos (the drive-in's).
It was an interesting documentary piece (very recent), and I'd recommend it for viewing.
So for the benefit of non-Germans....autokinos have diminished over the past thirty years, and throughout Germany....there are around 20 which are still 'active'.
Because of the Coronavirus crisis.....entertainment has been almost non-existent. So some smart Germans figured out the deal with autokinos, and how safe they are in this type of situation.
Out of thin air....a number of new autokinos have been put together, and with a little advertising, it's easy to get 100 to 300 cars into a parking area....throw up a screen, and pump out the audio via a FM device.
In fact, they even figured out that you could have concerts, band-shows, and DJs running light-shows.
Long-term surge? Well....my guess is that for the next year....these folks are going to have an audience on weekends, and turn a fair amount of profit. As winter comes along, it might dwindle to some degree, but come right back in the spring of 2021.
