For the record, or the first half of 2020....masks weren't mandated. In mid-summer, this topic came up, and suddenly....if you wanted to shop at a grocery or pharmacy....by German state orders, you wore a mask. This then went to include bus and railway travel.
So all along the first six months of this 'game'....any type of mask was ok (cloth, paper, 4-star, 3-star, 2-star, etc).
The cloth masks? They were fairly popular because you could wash and re-use them. Higher cost? Yes, of course. My German wife had around five of these, and they were the more preferred type.
Then came mid-January and the fear of the British-mutant virus. Then we were told...ONLY the FFP-2 mask or the surgical-type mask were acceptable. It was thus....mandated.
Cost factor? In that one-week period....the cost factor was outrageous. In some cases, you were forced in paying 4.50 Euro per mask. The understanding that the mask, if used for a 8-hour day, is only good for one single day? This became a big joke.
In recent days, I've noticed the grocery stores now getting the mask and selling them for 1 Euro per mask. In some cases, you can actually find German-made masks...instead of the Chinese masks.
Most folks are now hyped up to wear the FFP-2 masks....while the pro-fabric/cloth people would strongly prefer to go back to their old ways.
Well....this morning via N-TV....here's this simple basic report from the EU. They say the FFP-2 mask really ISN'T better than the paper or cloth masks.
You can kinda laugh about this. Some folks have spent fifty Euro getting some start-up batch of the FFP-2 masks because of the German mandate.
Another example of crappy analysis and mandate-thinking? More or less. Any day now, I'm expecting some idiot to say that you can get the virus via mist....getting into your eyes, thus triggering a mandate for eye-protection to always be worn. Then we're go to the second version of eye-protection....costing more money.
