Germany and Covid-19: 1 Feb 2021

 1.  As the vaccination business continues in Germany, there's this odd problem which is in open view in my state of Hessen....the salary level for doctors and pharmacists pulling 'duty' as shot-givers at the centers around the state.

The gov't kind of agreed back in December on 120 Euro per hour, as the sum to pay them.  If you pulled a 10-hour shift on a Sunday....1,200 Euro should be the payment then.

Well...HR (our public TV folks) brought up this problem....in some districts.....they are being paid less.   Some districts see the 120 Euro rate to be for highly urbanized areas, and state that local non-urban rates ought to be between 50 and 60 Euro per hour.

Cheating the system?  Some suggests that the money not paid to the doctors....is going back into the public medical health budget of that district.  All of this going to trigger some shortage of shot-givers?  Well....you can just sense that at some point in the next month....half of the rural shot-givers aren't going to show up, and another emergency will arrive.  Silly, I admit but this is the crazy nature of the vaccination business.

2.  Two critical phonecalls occurred on Friday, between the EU's von der Leyen and the UK's PM Johnson.  Since that point, the EU has quieted down a great bit and these sharp criticisms of UK's vaccine company have almost halted.

3.  Since the home office business started in 2020.....analysts have looked at electrical consumption in homes, and they believe everyone used another 110 Euro 'extra' power in the past year (figure around $130 US dollars).  Interesting Focus article explaining this detail.

4.  Biontech is doing a vaccine deal with the EU, suggesting over the next quarter....they can deliver around 75 million extra doses.  A lot of this goes to a higher production cycle.

5.  Just an obvious thing you begin to see since late December....there is a pre-occupation of political folks throughout Europe dumping upon or criticizing the vaccine companies on delays or problems.....with almost no concern over them delivering a quality product.  None of these companies want to be labeled with inferior vaccines, and this concern is rarely ever grasped within all the political bickering.
